Thomas Harold Atkins

A certificate of honourable discharge from the Great War for Lance Corporal Thomas Harold Atkins of the Grenadier Guards issued on 31st October 1916.  Thomas was born near Weymouth in around 1882 and had already served 12 years in the Royal Engineers when he was called up in 1914 at the age of 32.  He was discharged in 1916 with Class P wounds.  However he lived until the age of 96, dying in Yeovil in December 1979.

I have the Honourable discharge from the Grenadier Guards for my grandfather Ernest Henry Ham, a Yeovil man who was one of only 11 from an original 373 who joined up with him and survived the war. His army number was 20987 which is very close to Mr Atkins so they may have known each other!
