Stories from the Volunteers: Somerset's Remembrance Day - 16 September 1916

I am responding to several posts under the above title including my own. As previously mentioned my Grandfather William Henry Phillips was a stretcher bearer and company bugler in the 6th and won the Military Medal  for attending wounding under fire during the Somme battle.

The attached image is of a postcard sent to my grandmother shortly before embarkation to France in April 1915. it is described as 16 Platoon D Company and my grandfather is seated front row third from left with said bugle and helpfully, for my grandmother's sake, marked with an 'X'.
